How to write a bug report we can actually fix
The vast majority of "the tool is broken" emails don't include enough information to reproduce the problem on our end. If you want a fix instead of a "could you try again?" reply, a useful bug report gives us four things:
- Which tool — the URL or the name (e.g., "PDF Merger at /tools/pdf-merger.html").
- What you tried to do — "I dropped in two PDFs and hit Merge" beats "it doesn't work".
- What actually happened — an error message, a blank screen, a download that won't open, etc. Screenshots are great.
- Your browser and OS — "Chrome latest on macOS", "Safari on iPhone 13", "Firefox ESR on Windows 10". Many tool bugs are browser-specific.
For file-specific issues, it's very helpful (if the file isn't confidential) to attach a sample that reproduces the problem. We don't save attachments beyond reading the email.
What we don't do over email
- We don't convert files for you as a service. The tools are self-serve — if they can't handle your file, we'll investigate why, but we won't run them manually.
- We don't provide account support, because there are no accounts.
- We don't guarantee a specific response time. A simple bug might get a reply in hours; a longer conversation about a new tool might wait a week.
- We don't sell ad placements directly through this address — AdSense is the only ad system, and you'd go through Google for that.
Before you email about a missing tool
If you want a new tool, the Suggest a Tool page opens a pre-filled email that makes it quick for us to triage. Roughly, we'll build a tool if: there's a clean open-source library that does the hard part, it fits in one page without a login, and it's the kind of thing someone would want once a week rather than once a decade. If it needs an API key, a queue, or an account, it's probably not a TheToolly tool.
Press, SEO, and link-building enquiries
Please don't send us guest-post pitches, link-exchange offers, sponsored content proposals, or paid-review templates — we read them, but we don't accept them. We don't sell links, do paid reviews, or run sponsored tool pages. The site's credibility is its only durable asset, so that isn't something we'd trade for a one-off payment.
For anything else, write to thetoollyy@gmail.com and we'll do our best.
